Moorside Independent Learning Extension (MILE)

Moorside Independent Learning Extension (MILE)- homework & more…

MILEs at Moorside encompass all the ways we encourage our students to develop self-reliance in their learning and gain opportunities to extend their learning and prepare for their time once they leave our walls.

Much of this will be in the form of homework but not exclusively so and may take the following forms:

  • Research on current or future topics, to include research projects.
  • Extra-curricular or intervention sessions.
  • Online work e.g. SAM Learning, Mymaths etc…
  • Exam papers.
  • Worksheets to extend learning.
  • Practise i.e. in drama or PE.
  • Coaching peers.

The frequency that MILEs are given will be appropriate to the subject and any MILE/homework given should be recorded in the student planners together with the due date.

Achievements will be rewarded on a weekly basis with parents also informed. Students showing that they are going the extra MILE i.e. pushing themselves above and beyond the tasks provided by staff and demonstrating the self-reliance we are striving to encourage will be recognised as leaders in their areas.

If you have any queries regarding specific MILE tasks or would like advice on how to encourage your child to become a more independent learner please contact the subject teacher or Head of Faculty concerned.
