Duke of Edinburgh's Award

What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

Each year, Moorside students are offered the opportunity to embark on a series of challenges to receive the Duke of Edinburgh award. The award recognises a young person’s successful journey of self-discovery and is acknowledged by employers and universities alike as a way of demonstrating perseverance, determination and commitment.

To achieve the award participants must complete four sections which involve helping the community for example becoming fitter; developing new skills and planning, training and completing an expedition. With the help of DofE Leaders, participants select their own programme of activities and objectives meaning there are plenty of opportunities to take part in activities you enjoy and set your own personal goals.  It's not a competition or about being first; it's all about self-development.

The DofE Award is offered to year 10 pupils at bronze level and some participants choose to extend this to undertake the silver level in year 11. We encourage all Moorside students to get involved in such a respected program to start your journey and make leaps towards success.

More information is available from www.DofE.org or from Mr Dawson in the science department.
