Child Employment Awareness

Child Employment Awareness: Important Information for Parents and Young People.

Did you know that children in full time education require a permit to work? Did you know that even with a permit, children cannot work in particular workplaces or roles?

Parents have duty in law to ensure that their child does not undertake particular responsibilities in employment and that they do not work in specific environments such as clubs, kitchens or warehouses.  The work hours children are permitted to work are also restricted by law. Salford City Council has issued some informational guides to help parents and students understand the rules and regulations concerning Child Employment.

The guide gives parents, who may not be aware of these and other laws, a clear and concise guide to employment law for children. The guide also helps parents to understand the duty so the employer in ensuring your child’s employment is safe and complies with employment law.

Children are often very keen to starting earning their own money but they may not realise what ‘employment’ actually means, meaning they are breaking the law without realising. The council have also released an accompanying guide for young people to ensure they fully understand how the law affects them.
