Peer Mentor and Prefect Weekend

PGL Peer Mentor and Prefect Weekend at Winmarleigh Hall Review

On the 12th of September the peer mentors and prefects began to embark on a weekend of fun and excitement all in order to encourage their team spirits.

We travelled down on the Friday and had to make a quick stop for some lunch so we had fish and chips on the beach which was delicious and then we finally arrived at Pgl. That evening we participated in an activity called ‘get your own back’ for this activity we were in Four teams each with a teacher and we had to work as  a team to take photos to go with captions that was given to us for example ‘ tree hugging’. Each team had a bucket and depending on how creative your picture was depended on how much water was put into your bucket and then at the very end how much water we had earned in our bucket whether it was one cup or one bucket we got to throw over the teachers which obviously lead into a massive, fun water fight, we even managed to get Mr Ogden wet! After everyone was soaked we all headed back in to get changed and enjoy some social time were we got to talk and just chill, the year 11 girls made a special effort at the evening and all wore their onesies there was a sheep, a bunny, a leopard and we even had a parrot, everyone looked great.

The meals at pgl were great, there was a wide variety and they were quite tasty, we even got a fry up in the morning to help wake us all up and give us plenty of energy. The evenings at Pgl were also good as it was a time to sit together and discuss the day in a relaxed environment.

On the Saturday we did several activities including the giant swing, Jacobs ladder and canoeing. All the activities were great fun but Canoeing was particularly entertaining as we all tried to keep inside our boats but most of us ended up swimming next to them, everyone was soaked but everyone was still smiling by the end. However it was very hard to stay in the boats when the teachers were determined to sneak up on everyone and get them in!

Peer Mentor Weekend

Other activities we took part in over the course of the weekend included the zip wire, assault course, and we also did a sensory trail. On the Saturday evening we played capture the flag in the dark this lead to groups crawling on their hands and knees through a massive field in order to win. The funniest activity had to be the sensory trail as we were completely blind folded and we had to trust each other in order to make our way around a course filled with ropes, tyres and many more obstacles. At first it was quite scary but then it was lots of fun as people lost the rope and others got stuck but you couldn’t see what was going on and the pictures taken clearly show this as all our faces show excitement but fear of what was going to happen. The sensory trail was great fun but some people had more fun than others, Charlotte Gettins got wedged in a tyre, Ben Cotton lost the rope and ended up walking around endlessly and Laura Knowles decided not to take her goggles off at the end and ran into a tree everyone was fine although everyone couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the day.

Peer Mentor Weekend

Throughout the weekend we had lots of fun but also we developed our teamwork and leadership skills as we supported each other through the challenges so that even if you were scared about the enormous zip wire you managed to conquer it in the end through the support of your team and the instructors.

Pgl was an amazing experience and I would definitely encourage people to go and experience the thrills and excitement it creates.
