Year 8 Trip to Chester Zoo

On Wednesday 3rd November, year 8 pupils visited Chester Zoo. The purpose of their visit was to explore the theme of ‘Conservation’ which was their topic as part of a whole school Citizenship Day.  Students were given this unique opportunity in order to explore the animals that are affected by this very important issue.

As part of the visit students were set two challenges to complete during the day. The first was to visit as many animals as possible to find out: where the animal can be found; its habitat; its conservation status and the main threats it faces in the wild. Throughout the course of the day pupils were able to visit a vast amount of wildlife such as: Orang-utans, Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, Lions and even a Jaguar! As a result of seeing these beautiful animals in real life, the importance of the conservation of these species was made even clearer to students.

In addition to learning about the animals, the second challenge was to see who could get the best animal selfie! We have had a few great entries so far and will be judging the best selfie over the coming weeks.  This was a highlight from all pupils that attended the visit and became the topic of conversation on the journey home, with pupils comparing and discussing pictures taken. It was not only pupils that thoroughly enjoyed the selfie taking competition, staff were keen to participate too!

Overall year 8 had a fantastic day researching the animals and developing their knowledge. A very successful trip with Moorside High School pupils once again showing outstanding behaviour that was commented on by both the trip organisers and staff at Chester Zoo.

Well done Year 8!
