Year 10 Information

Director of Learning - Miss J Whealing

My role as Director of Learning is to ensure that the Academic and Pastoral progress of each child within my year groups is closely monitored. Tracking the progress involves:

Analysing teacher assessment data and targets

  1. Comparing progress to National expectations
  2. Monitoring the progress of individuals and identified groups
  3. Ensuring information is shared between subject teachers so all staff get a cross curricular view of all students.
  4. Assessing on-going classroom assessments not just summative grades to identify underlying issues
  5. Allocating the most effective method of intervention for individuals or groups identified as requiring alternative support.
  6. I monitor the impact of intervention programmes and continually review these processes
  7. Tracking coursework deadlines and grades to ensure students are on target.

When working with the students my primary focus is academic progress through the power of self-belief. I am a strong believer in achieving begins with believing and I constantly endeavour to share this ethos with all the students. We focus on organisation and time management to eliminate unnecessary pressure the students may face. Each child is guided to complete an ‘out of school hours’ timetable to share their time accordingly.

I am also fully committed to the development of the wellbeing of each child in my year groups. I encourage them to respect each other and to be courteous to all staff and students at Moorside High school. Behaviour is rewarded in conjunction with the school behaviour systems.

I work closely with students who may have had a death in the family or a family breakdown or any other crisis they may face which may impact their academic progress. I encourage parents or guardians to be involved in school life as much as possible by contacting either myself, their child’s allocated learning mentor or form tutor.

Together, this creates a happy and safe environment for every child at Moorside High School.
