PE

Head of Department Mr D Higham

At Moorside High School, students will foster a love and passion for physical activity and sport.  They will develop their not only their physical competence but their confidence, communication, team working and leadership skills.  This will provide them with the knowledge and understanding of how to undertake a wide variety of roles in sport, such as a performer, coach or official. Our curriculum teaches students to become physically competent in a wide variety of sporting activities, empowering them with the tools to make informed lifestyle choices, enabling them to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle both now and in later life.

During their time at Moorside High School students will be provided with a student driven curriculum that enables them to autonomously direct their own learning pathways. Within PE students are given the opportunity to learn through a variety of roles within sport such as performer, official or coach. Each and every PE lesson allows students to learn the key physical skills and concepts required to be successful in these roles. In support of this all lessons have a topical focus that aims to develop the theoretical knowledge and understanding that underpins physical activity, health and wellbeing.

Our KS4 option choices provide both a scientific pathway, through GCSE PE and a more practical based route via the Cambridge National Sports Studies Course.  Both of these courses not only prepare our students for continued study in higher education in either an A level or BTEC, but they provide them with the key skills required to succeed and prosper in a career within the sports industry and beyond.

Sports Leadership

All students at Moorside have will also have the opportunity to develop specific transferable skills, such as communication, motivation, confidence and self-reflection, all through sport and physical activity. They can do this by gaining the schools own Sports Leaders Diploma. Students will also have the opportunity to other gain sport specific qualifications and have the benefit of athlete mentor visits.
